Moldova will rehabilitate the North-Center rail corridor. The loan from the EBRD will amount to 18 million euros

The North-Center railway corridor, spanning Valcinets-Ocnitsa-Balti-Ungheni-Chisinau-Cainari, will be repaired with the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which is granting Moldova a loan of over 18 million euros. They expect to complete the repair work by late 2025.
The government approved Amendment Agreement No. 1 to the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD as part of the Moldovan Railways Crisis Response initiative.

This project allocates 18.205 million euros for the North-Center railway corridor rehabilitation as part of the Corridors of Solidarity initiative.

This railway section connects the industrial areas in the north and center of Moldova, including the free economic zones of Marculesti, Balti, Ungheni, and Chisinau. The corridor is important in exporting, importing, and transiting goods to and from Romania and Ukraine. Additionally, it links to the Cainari-Cimishlia-Basarabeasca-Giurgiuleshti railway corridor, facilitating the logistics of goods transshipped through the Danube and Black Sea ports.
