Moldovan Rescue Team Honored with Medal of Gratitude by Turkish President

On Tuesday, the Moldovan urban search and rescue team was awarded the “Medal of Gratitude” by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara for their assistance in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6th.

The solemn event, dedicated to all the rescuers who contributed to the aftermath of the earthquake, was attended by the national team commander and deputy chief of the State Emergency Service, Lieutenant Colonel Alexandr Tatarov.

The grand ceremony took place in the Presidential Complex in the Turkish capital, with representatives from over 80 countries who provided assistance to the people of Turkey in the first hours of the devastating earthquake. The event was organized with the support of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Turkey.

“The Moldovan team, represented by its commander, received the Medal of Gratitude from the Republic of Turkey for the assistance and support provided in the aftermath of the earthquake. The leadership of Turkey officially thanked the rescuers for their dedication, courage, and selflessness, who saved human lives and contributed to the recovery of the victims of the tragic earthquake,” said the statement.

It is worth noting that Moldova promptly went on a rescue mission in the province of Hatay. The Moldovan rescuers, consisting of 56 people, 12 units of equipment, and two specially trained dogs for such situations, managed to recover a 3-year-old child alive and unharmed from the rubble of damaged buildings in the early hours of their arrival.

Moreover, during their stay in the affected area, they assessed over 220 residential buildings, where 18 deceased persons were identified. The Moldovan rescue team has demonstrated exceptional professionalism and courage, and their efforts were highly appreciated by the Turkish authorities.
