The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, carried out an important working visit to Brussels on the eve of the European Council on December 14-15. During the visit, the Moldovan official had meetings with both European officials and his colleagues from the member states of the European Union, including Luminița Odobescu (Romania), Xavier Bettel (Luxembourg), Gabrielius Landsbergis (Lithuania), Margus Tsahkna (Estonia), Krišjānis Kariņš (Latvia), Juraj Blanár (Slovakia), and Anna Lührmann (Germany), as reported by TRIBUNA.
“As always when I am in Brussels, I had a meeting with Gert-Jan Koopman, the Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement of the EU, and his team. We discussed the European Commission’s recommendation regarding the opening of accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and the next steps in the accession process, with a focus on continuous reform in the judicial system and the de-oligarchization process. I also had meetings with Simon Mordue and Magdalena Grono, foreign policy advisers to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
