Photo Mihai Popsoi encountered Mircea Geoana in Brussels.: “Moldova has benefited from cooperation with NATO”

Following his working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi met with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana.

“During my visit to the North Atlantic Alliance Headquarters in Brussels, I had a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana. This visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of Moldova’s accession to NATO’s Partnership for Peace. We discussed the implementation of the objectives of the Moldova-NATO Partnership Individual Action Plan, as well as the strengthening of Moldova’s defence capabilities and cooperation in combating new threats to our country’s security,” the Foreign Minister wrote on his Facebook page.

Also, the Moldovan official added that Moldova benefited from the collaboration with NATO, both in the context of increasing military capabilities, but also in combating hybrid threats, cyber and crisis management. At the same time, our country has contributed to strengthening security in Europe by participating in the KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo. The Republic of Moldova is not only a consumer of security but also contributes to regional security.

“We expressed our interest in the organisation’s expertise and assistance in modernising Moldova’s security and defence sector. Despite all the challenges, we will continue on our path towards EU membership and strengthened cooperation with NATO. We discussed recent updates on regional security and the dangers presented by the Russian Federation’s conflict with Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova will continue to support Ukraine during these challenging times.

The Deputy Secretary General of NATO reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to partnering with the Republic of Moldova while respecting the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and neutrality status. Mircea Geoana also reiterated support for the Republic of Moldova’s European integration,” wrote Mihai Popsoi.
