(PHOTO) Selemet Village Celebrates the Impact of USAID Projects: How Residents’ Lives Have Developed and Improved

Selemet Village hosted a delegation from USAID Moldova and the ”Comunitatea Mea” Program, which visited two key USAID-supported projects in the area: the Day Social Center and the Multifunctional Cultural Center. Both projects have significantly contributed to local development and improved the quality of life for residents.

The first stop was the Day Social Center, where the delegation engaged with a group of seniors participating in traditional crafts. The center provides essential services, including a social canteen, hygiene facilities, a rehabilitation room, and a social barber shop. It serves 22 Ukrainian refugees, 26 children with special needs, 105 elderly people, and 181 individuals with special needs daily, according to a statement from IREX.

The USAID investment of $23,527 enabled the thermal insulation of the building and the installation of 160 LED bulbs and fixtures, reducing energy costs and providing a more comfortable environment for the beneficiaries.

At the ”Burebista” Multifunctional Cultural Center, the delegation watched local youth perform in a concert and interacted with diaspora members who actively collaborate with the mayor’s office to raise funds for additional cultural initiatives. USAID’s $120,111 investment in the building renovation included modernizing the concert hall, refurbishing the walls and ceiling, and upgrading utility systems. This initiative will benefit approximately 10,000 people, contributing to the revitalization of the community’s cultural and social life.
