President Maia Sandu is on a state visit to the Kingdom of Norway on May 6-7 at the invitation of Their Majesties King Harald V and Queen Sonja. It is the first time the Republic of Moldova President has paid a state visit to Oslo.
During the visit, the Head of State will hold talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament Masud Gharahkhani, and members of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.
“Norway has consistently supported the Republic of Moldova over the last two years. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, UN agencies and other international organizations have provided humanitarian support to help Ukrainian refugees and their host communities. Norway has also contributed funds to purchase natural gas and to support our war-affected economy. On the economic front, a year ago, Moldova signed a free trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), of which Norway is a member. Once ratified by Oslo, the document will open new opportunities for Moldovan producers in a stable market with high purchasing power while making our country more attractive to Norwegian investors,” the Presidency statement said.
