President Maia Sandu Presented the State Flag to Paralympic Athletes Heading to Paris

President Maia Sandu handed the state flag to the athletes representing Moldova at the Paralympic Games in Paris.

The president praised the athletes for their determination, noting that they demonstrated how courage and willpower can overcome any obstacle through their daily efforts.

“We recognize that you must work harder than others to achieve results, and we support you. This year, we achieved spectacular success at the Olympic Games, earning the highest number of medals since independence. These medals reflect the hard work of the athletes and their teams, and I believe that the authorities’ efforts have contributed to this success. In recent years, we have doubled the sports budget and tripled scholarships, and we will continue this trend to provide better conditions for our athletes. I wish you many medals, but we support and are proud of you regardless of the outcomes,” said Maia Sandu.

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, who also attended the event, wished the athletes success and emphasized that the flag handed to them today “is not just a symbol; it embodies the hopes and aspirations of an entire nation.”

“You are examples of courage. Overcoming your boundaries is not easy, but you have proven you can. These impressive achievements wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of your coaches. The entire country will be behind you in Paris, with millions of hearts cheering for you. Moldova has had a historic Olympic year, and I am confident that the medal count will continue to grow. Your effort and determination inspire us to do more and invest in sports. May the Moldovan flag fly proudly in Paris,” said Perciun.

Five athletes—Ion Basoc, Ina Cernei, Larisa Marinenkova, Oleg Cretsul, and Gheorghe Spinu—will represent Moldova at the Paralympic Games in Paris, which begin on August 28. The team includes three national para-judo team members, one in para-powerlifting and one in para-athletics.
