Radu Marian: The EU accession will greatly benefit the citizens of the Republic of Moldova

MP Radu Marian emphasized that the EU accession will greatly benefit the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, leading to significant investments in roads, schools, hospitals, economic growth, higher incomes, and enhanced peace and security. He made these statements in response to analysts suggesting that the government’s success in obtaining EU candidate status and initiating negotiations are merely “external achievements” influenced by the “tragic circumstances” in Ukraine.

Marian argued that progress on the EU accession is not only a matter of foreign policy but is fundamentally a domestic policy achievement, marking major strategic progress for the people of Moldova.

“Accession to the EU will primarily benefit the citizens of the Republic of Moldova by attracting much greater investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic growth, and security. It is a mistake to view this process solely as a foreign policy issue or to attribute our progress solely to the situation in Ukraine. While the EU’s perspective did shift significantly after Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, becoming more open to enlargement, our progress—securing candidate status and opening negotiations—would not have been possible without the internal reforms we implemented,” he stated.

He cited Georgia and other countries that began the accession process much earlier as examples.
