In 2023, Moldova reached a record level in the export of fresh plums, establishing itself as the third-largest global exporter and the undisputed leader in Europe.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova, from January to September 2023, Moldovan farmers exported over 47 thousand tons of fresh plums, generating revenues exceeding 22.8 million US dollars.
Optimistic forecasts suggest that by the end of the agricultural season, the total volume of plum exports will reach an impressive 85 thousand tons.
Key factors contributing to this success include low plum yields in other countries and the liberalization of the European Union market for Moldovan plum exports. Remarkably, about 79% of Moldova’s total plum exports were directed to EU countries, with the remaining 17% exported to CIS countries.
This achievement not only represents a triumph for Moldova’s agriculture but also demonstrates strong and continuously growing economic ties with the European Union.
