Regional security in Moldova, discussed by the OSCE Ambassador and Dorin Recean

The Ambassador of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Thomas Mayr-Harting, who was on a working visit to Chisinau, met with Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

The official discussions focused on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and efforts for the reintegration of the country.

“Specifically, the parties referred to the security situation in the region, in the context of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine, as well as measures for the economic and social integration of citizens on both sides of the Dniester,” according to a statement from the Government.

The OSCE is an international organization that promotes security, cooperation, and stability in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions. Its main roles include conflict prevention and management, supporting post-conflict reconstruction, and promoting human rights and democracy. The organization also facilitates economic cooperation and environmental protection, thus contributing to peace maintenance in the 57 member states.

The Republic of Moldova has been a member of the OSCE since 1992. The organization plays an active role in the country, including supporting the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and promoting democracy, human rights, and regional security.
