Russia’s Attempt to Change Gas Entry Point During Ukraine War Revealed by Moldovan President

President Maia Sandu recently revealed that in the early days of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the Russian conglomerate Gazprom requested that the Moldovan company Moldovagaz change the entry point for natural gas into the Republic of Moldova.

According to the statements made by the head of state during a TV show on Jurnal TV, the Russians wanted to deliver gas to the Republic of Moldova through the Transnistrian region, as they believed they would quickly reach that separatist region.

“In the early days of the war, a letter came from Gazprom to Moldovagaz requesting a change in the contract, specifically changing the entry point of natural gas into the Republic of Moldova. The entry point is in the north of the Republic of Moldova, and in the early days of the war, Gazprom wanted to change the contract to include the Transnistrian region segment as the entry point because they believed they would reach there very soon, and they wanted to control this entry point for natural gas into the Republic of Moldova. They were told that nobody was interested in changing the contract, and things remained as they were originally. Later on, the Russians also understood that they could not reach the border with the Republic of Moldova,” said the President of the Republic of Moldova.

It is worth mentioning that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Russia has repeatedly made threats regarding the creation of a land corridor to the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.
