The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, had a telephone conversation last night, June 21, with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, about the application submitted by our country to join the European Community, a request to be examined on 23 and June 24 this year.
Officials discussed the European Commission’s recommendation to give Moldova the status of an EU candidate country and the efforts that our country must make to move forward on its European path.
In this context, President Maia Sandu mentioned that our country relies on the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the European Council on 23 and 24 June.

We want to remind you that on June 17, the European Commission recommended to the European Council to support the application for the status of candidate state for accession to the European Union of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, while in the case of Georgia it came with the recommendation to carry out political reforms. subsequently the request will pass into the examination phase.
Maia Sandu, President of the country, welcomed the decision, saying that “at the European Council meeting on June 23-24, EU Member States will support the European Commission’s recommendation and grant our country candidate status.”
