Social Workers to Receive IT Equipment Through Donation from German Embassy and International Organizations

Social workers will benefit from IT equipment through a donation provided on Monday, February 10, by the German Embassy’s Department for Development Cooperation, the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The donation includes 260 printers and 35 laptops, distributed to Territorial Social Assistance Agencies to improve access to social services and facilitate interaction with beneficiaries, particularly in rural areas. This initiative is part of the RESTART reform, with the total donation amounting to 1.491 million lei.

“The RESTART reform goal is to ensure that we have professionals on the front lines equipped with the necessary skills and tools to provide the best and most prompt support to our communities, to children and adults in crises. It means our approach is working. We need to double, even triple, our investments in frontline services. I am very pleased that today, together with many of our friends and partners, we are making another round of investments,” stated Alexei Buzu, Minister of Labour and Social Protection.

Since the launch of the RESTART reform, all indicators have shown improvement, particularly in the number of individuals included in case management. At the beginning of 2024, there were approximately 3,400 individuals in the system. Today, that number has exceeded 30,000, significantly increasing the number of adults, children, and families receiving attention from Moldova’s social assistance system.

“I am delighted to be here today and to discuss the support provided for the RESTART reform. We are all here because we want the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to have access to better social services, to help them find jobs, and to improve their quality of life,” said Dr. Verena Zell, Head of the Development Cooperation Department at the German Embassy.

During the event, partners of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLSP) acknowledged that Moldova is currently facing multiple challenges. However, despite these difficulties, the country is successfully implementing an ambitious social reform.

“We have an excellent collaboration with MLSP representatives. Our goal is to facilitate the work of frontline social workers so that citizens can benefit from more services. We want an accessible social system for all individuals needing support,” noted representatives of UNICEF, GIZ, the German Embassy, and UNDP.

They also assured that Moldova’s social system efforts continue.
The RESTART reform, launched by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, aims to improve governance and transparency in the social assistance system while ensuring fair and equal access to quality social services for vulnerable populations.
