The central area of Cahul Municipality has been renovated with the support of the European Union and UNDP Moldova

The area adjacent to the “Nicolae Botgros” Cultural Palace in Cahul Municipality, the access to the “Nufarul Alb” Sanatorium, and a section of Victoria Boulevard received renovations. The work, valued at over 1.817 million euros, included paving sidewalks, resurfacing a 0.7 km section of road, creating bicycle lanes, constructing three water fountains with jets, a light and music show, and setting up a playground for children and green spaces with controlled irrigation. The European Union provided 80% of the total funding, with Cahul Municipality covering the remaining 20%.

”Through this project, we have created another beautiful space in the city center and enhanced the capacity and environment of one of the most important cultural institutions in the area, the Cultural Palace of Cahul. We thank the EU and UNDP Moldova,” said Nicolae Dandis, Mayor of Cahul.

”The upgrading of the urban center’s infrastructure will boost businesses, cultural venues, sports facilities, and entertainment options. It will also create a welcoming space for people, especially children and young, to enjoy leisure time. The European Union is proud to support the city of Cahul. In the last four years, the EU has provided over 10 million euros to fund projects that have improved public services, infrastructure, the business environment, and local governance. These investments demonstrate the EU’s commitment to the well-being and prosperity of the city,” said Julda Kielyte, Team Leader for the Competitive and Inclusive Growth Portfolio at the EU Delegation to Moldova.

The “EU4Moldova: Key Regions” program, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF, completed the modernization works in the central area of Cahul Municipality. The project ran from September 2023 to August 2024.
