The head of state had a meeting with the president of the EBRD

President Maia Sandu spoke on Monday with Odile Renaud-Basso, the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Odile Renaud-Basso has a working visit to Chisinau. The discussions concerned the programs financed by the EBRD, and the socio-economic development priorities of the country, the press service of the presidential institution reports.

The EBRD is the largest institutional investor in Moldova, and last year it financed projects worth 500 million euros. The bank invests in infrastructure projects: roads, railways, and power lines to ensure a better connection of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union. President Maia Sandu appreciated the EBRD’s contribution to strengthening the energy security and independence of the Republic of Moldova. The EBRD provides financing for gas purchases from alternative sources and energy efficiency projects and supports the country’s efforts in developing the legislative framework for the production of energy from renewable sources.

Discussions also focused on projects to modernize public services such as the central heating system, waste management, and electricity distribution. It has a direct impact on the quality of life of citizens. The importance of financing small and medium enterprises was also addressed. They represent 98% of all companies in the country. In this context, the head of state thanked the Bank’s management for the contribution made to the modernization of the Republic of Moldova and the stimulation of its economy.

Today, President Maia Sandu and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso will participate together in the inauguration of the Chisinau – Giurgiulești road section of the M3 national road, built with the Bank’s support.
