The MD-Alert system, which warns of emergencies, will be operated soon

An alert system that will warn Moldovans about extreme weather events or emergencies could be operational in Moldova as early as 2025. A spokeswoman for the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (GES), Liliana Pushcasu, told RadioMoldova that steps are being taken to contract companies to find out which technologies are the best.

The spokeswoman also said the system could be equivalent to the one used in Romania or other European Union countries. The project is currently at the feasibility study stage.

European partners will provide 92% of the funds for the MD-Alert project, estimated to cost more than 440 thousand euros. The MD-Alert system will make it possible to disseminate warning messages to the population in case of extreme weather events, floods, and other situations that seriously threaten the lives and health of citizens. The networks of mobile operators will transmit the warnings.

Recall that in January 2024, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Adrian Efros, reported on the forthcoming development of a system to notify citizens about emergencies.

“In this way, we will be closer to citizens. We will be able to have a link between public institutions, maintenance bodies, and civil protection,” explained Efros.
