The Republic of Moldova is set to receive €145 million in financial assistance from the European Parliament in two installments by the end of the year. The announcement was made by Siegfried Mureșan, a member of the European Parliament and President of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Republic of Moldova.
Mureșan stated that the decision to provide financial assistance to Moldova was taken by the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets on April 17th. As the rapporteur for the decision, Mureșan proposed that the committee approve the assistance in the form proposed by the European Commission without any amendments.
“After yesterday’s opinion of the Committee on Budgets of the European Parliament, the vote in the International Trade Committee on assistance is scheduled for April 27th,” Mureșan said. “We are providing the Republic of Moldova with the financial support it needs to ensure that the government has sufficient funds throughout the year to support its people and ensure economic stability.”

Mureșan also announced that the final vote in the European Parliament is expected to take place in May. “By adopting the macro-financial assistance in the European Parliament on time, we will ensure that the funds will reach Moldova by the end of the year in two installments, which will be transferred in the third and fourth quarters of 2023,” he added.
The financial assistance from the European Parliament is expected to help the Republic of Moldova recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and support its ongoing reform efforts. The assistance will be subject to certain conditions related to economic and financial reforms and good governance.
