The Romanian holiday voucher program could be extended to Moldova

Last week, the Ministry of Culture met with several mayors and members of the National Association of Romanian Spa and Balneoclimatic Resorts to discuss prospects for Moldovan-Romanian cooperation in tourism and explore joint projects to boost the sector. The discussion focused on spa tourism and the possibility of extending Romania’s holiday voucher program to Moldova.

Andrei Chistol, the Ministry of Culture State Secretary, strongly supported the initiative, saying, “Developing a holiday voucher usable on both sides of the Prut would foster fruitful cooperation between Moldova and Romania.”

Gheorghe Baciu, President of the National Association of Spas and Balneoclimatic Resorts in Romania, supported the holiday voucher program in Moldova. He noted, “Currently, 34 resorts are members of our association, and our goal is to provide strategic and technical assistance to any resorts interested in joining this network.”

In Romania, holiday vouchers are an employee benefit used to purchase tourism services such as accommodation, transportation, meals, and leisure activities. These vouchers, issued by employers, can be redeemed at tourist establishments registered with the National Tourism Authority. The program aims to promote domestic tourism and help employees take annual leave by reducing their vacation expenses. The value of the vouchers varies depending on the employer’s policy (for private sector employees) and can only be used for vacations within Romania (for state employees).
