On Thursday, February 20, Members of Parliament observed a minute of silence at the start of the plenary session to honor the victims of the war in Ukraine. Following this, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu delivered a message condemning the unjust, illegal, and immoral war, expressing solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people, who have been heroically resisting the aggressor for three years.
“For three years, day after day, Ukraine has fought bravely and with dignity for democracy, freedom, sovereignty, and peace. For three years, Ukrainians have been killed by Russians because they refuse to surrender their country and because they are patriots. We are witnessing an unjust war, three years of an illegal and immoral invasion—one that I have every right to call criminal—led by an individual with unmeasured ambitions of power, seeking to impose the ‘Russkiy Mir’ in Ukraine and rebuild an empire,” said Grosu.
The Speaker of Parliament recalled that since the first day of Russia’s invasion, Moldova has stood by the Ukrainian people and continues to do so.

“I want to thank and acknowledge the courage and bravery of Ukrainians—an example of a nation fighting for its country with their lives for a free Ukraine. Ukraine’s courage also ensures peace in Moldova. Know that we will never forget this. Thank you for your resistance, for fighting, for loving Ukraine. Moldova will stand with Ukraine for as long as necessary,” Grosu added.
The Russian Federation attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Since the start of the war, Moldova has received the highest number of Ukrainian refugees per capita in Europe. During this time, refugees have benefited from social, medical, and educational assistance, as well as the opportunity to enter the labor market in Moldova.
