Valeriu Munteanu has been appointed president of the Joint Committee (Senate and Chamber of Deputies) for European Integration between the Parliament of Romania and the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The former Minister of Environment from Chisinau stated that this position will be a “mission close to his heart.”
During an interview on the “Rezoomat” show on RLIVE TV, the politician said this committee will support Moldova’s European integration. At the same time, he emphasized that, in his view, unification with Romania would be the solution to the country’s current problems and his ultimate aspiration.

“This committee has a long history. It is a bilateral structure designed to offer comprehensive support to the Republic of Moldova in the European integration process—legislatively and institutionally. (…) It will help us accelerate this process, but first, we must be honest with each other and row in the same direction,” Munteanu stated.
Lawmakers established the committee that Munteanu will lead in 2010. According to IPN, it consists of ten deputies from each parliament in Chisinau and Bucharest. Officials meet twice a year, alternating between the two sides of the Prut River.
