Citizens will receive higher energy compensations in December to offset rising gas tariffs. The government will raise the minimum compensation from 300 lei in November to 500 lei in December and increase the maximum from 800 lei to 1,000 lei. Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu announced the changes today, assuring citizens that they will not face higher energy costs after compensation.
“Citizens who heat with gas will benefit most in December as gas tariffs have increased,” Buzu explained. “The government is committed to ensuring that, after compensation, no household will pay more than last year. We delivered this promise in November and will continue to do so in December. In November, the gas tariff was 13.12 lei, so compensation was lower. In December, with higher tariffs, compensations will increase accordingly. We are sure after receiving compensation, citizens will not pay a higher tariff than last year.”
The government will raise the minimum compensation threshold to 500 lei and the maximum to 1,000 lei. In November, the average compensation was 524 lei; in December, it will rise to 715 lei.

Compensations for December will support households as follows:
- 243,347 households will receive 500–600 lei.
- 8,610 households will receive 600–700 lei.
- 278,450 households will receive 700–800 lei.
- 19,410 households will receive 800–900 lei.
- 93,519 households will receive 900–1,000 lei.
Buzu emphasized that the government guarantees a lower post-compensation energy cost than the previous year. “We will compensate up to 150 cubic meters of gas consumption per household monthly. Compensation amounts will adjust with tariff changes—rising when tariffs increase and decreasing when tariffs fall. Regardless, citizens will not pay more than last year. It is the government’s firm commitment, and we are fulfilling it.”
Compensations will be available starting January 10, with notifications sent to beneficiaries. Households can receive compensation at post offices or directly on their personal cards.
The compensation budget, which amounted to 334 million lei in November, is expected to reach 480–500 million lei in December.
In November, approximately 703,000 applicants registered for the compensation program. For the third year, the government has provided energy compensations to vulnerable households for the cold season, covering November to March. Households using natural gas, heat, electricity, or solid fuel for heating are eligible for support.
