Staying at home on referendum day means playing into the Russian Federation’s game, MEP Siegfried Muresan told Rlive TV’s Rezoomat. According to him, if Moldova needs another referendum at the end of the accession negotiations, it will not be a problem.
“This referendum is the best opportunity to confirm the majority pro-European support among the population, and if people turn out to vote in large numbers and give an overwhelming vote for European integration, then the EU will feel this vote given by the people of the Republic of Moldova as an obligation for itself to accelerate the integration process. Integration will happen because the people of the Republic of Moldova want it. If the people clearly and loudly say so, integration will happen faster. If the country needs a referendum, from a legal or technical point of view, I do not see a problem. It will be. The referendum now will win the case”, said Siegfried Muresan.
“People in the Republic of Moldova want democracy. How not to go out and vote? When there’s a vote, it’s a chance for people. Telling the citizens on election day is undemocratic. To stay at home on referendum day is to play the Russian Federation’s game”, says the MEP.
