The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Anca Dragu, and the members of the NBM Executive Board recently engaged in a significant meeting with Jānis Mažeiks, the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation.
The focal points of discussion during the meeting encompassed various aspects of the financial-banking sector in the Republic of Moldova, with a specific emphasis on initiatives aimed at meeting the criteria for EU accession.
Highlighting the NBM’s commitment to the European integration process, Governor Anca Dragu underscored their determination through the application to join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). She emphasized that this move unequivocally demonstrates the NBM’s dedication to contributing to European integration.

“The NBM is determined to contribute to the process of European integration, and the application to join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) clearly shows this,” the NBM Governor stressed.
Governor Anca Dragu also reaffirmed the central bank’s unwavering commitment to integrity, independence, transparency, and accountability, considering them as pivotal elements within her mandate.
In acknowledging the significance of European Union support, the Governor expressed the NBM’s intention to intensify efforts along the European path of the Republic of Moldova. Specifically, the EU’s assistance to the Twinning project “Strengthening supervision, corporate governance, and risk management in the financial sector” in the Republic of Moldova was highlighted as a key element.
Furthermore, the Governor expressed optimism about broadening the scope of cooperation with the EU. This expansion is envisioned to encompass various dimensions, including the enhancement of supervisory and regulatory frameworks for both the banking and non-banking sectors, bank resolution mechanisms, research initiatives, and other collaborative areas.
