The military units in the Republic of Moldova, inherited from the former Soviet Union and currently in a deplorable state, will be relocated outside the cities, stated Anatolie Nosatîi, the Minister of Defense, to Moldova 1, as reported by Radio Moldova. According to the official, having officers and military equipment in cities is not a good practice as it jeopardizes the safety of citizens.
“Dislocating units in residential neighborhoods is not a good practice in terms of security, traffic, and several other circumstances. That’s why it was decided to move the units outside the city, which would allow, first of all, increased mobility. Secondly, there would be no interference with the civilian population and the creation of obstacles for traffic with military vehicles in the city,” mentioned Anatolie Nosatîi.
It is worth noting that last year the construction of a military camp near the city of Chisinau began. This also includes a residential area for military families, accommodating approximately a thousand people.
In 2023, the budget of the Ministry of Defense was around 1.7 billion lei, an increase of 650 million lei compared to 2022. The budget for 2024 is expected to be around two billion lei.
