The case involving Alexandr Stoianoglo, regarding the controversial release of businessman Veaceslav Platon, has been reopened. It will undergo re-examination in court.

According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, on July 9, 2024, the Penal College of the Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected as inadmissible the appeals filed by two prosecutors from the Organized Crime and Special Cases Prosecutor’s Office (OCSCPO), accusing them of acting illegally with the former head of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“These appeals contested the decision of the interim president of the Chisinau Court on November 2, 2022, which ordered the formation of a panel of three judges to hear the criminal case involving the three defendants.”

It is worth noting that on October 17, 2022, authorities sent the criminal case involving the former Prosecutor General to the Buiucani headquarters of the Chisinau Court. He faces accusations of passive corruption through illicit advantages, abuse of office in favor of a criminal organization, and making false statements. Additionally, two prosecutors from OCSCPO are alleged to have colluded with the former Prosecutor General in the release of convicted Veaceslav Platon from detention and the unlawful dropping of charges.

“The interim president of the Chisinau Court ordered the formation of a panel of three judges on November 2, 2022, following the registration of this case at the Buiucani headquarters of the Chisinau Court. Two prosecutors from OCSCPO contested the decision,” stated the anti-corruption prosecutors.
