B9: NATO Allies have committed to closely cooperate and support their partners, including the Republic of Moldova

Russia is the most important and direct threat to Euro-Atlantic security, and NATO allies are committed to increasing the level of allied military presence in the countries on the eastern flank, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, they determined on Wednesday, February 22, at Warsaw, the leaders of the nine allied states on NATO’s eastern flank, in a joint statement adopted at the end of the extraordinary summit of the “Bucharest 9” format, attended by the American president, Joe Biden, and the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg.

We are ready to cooperate closely and support our partners – the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are most exposed to the risk of destabilization and the malignant influence of the Kremlin, in the east and south of the Alliance.

In the document adopted in the presence of Biden and Stoltenberg on the eve of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, presidents Andrzej Duda and Klaus Iohannis and other leaders in the region condemn “in the strongest terms, Russia’s war of aggression”, strongly support ” Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Ukraine” and declare themselves ready to support partners such as the Republic of Moldova.

“A year ago, Russia devastated peace and security in Europe by trying to subjugate Ukraine by force (…) In response to Russia’s bloody war of aggression, NATO Allies reacted decisively in a united and responsible manner. To protect their citizens and territory, the Allies are committed to implementing the new reference point for NATO’s deterrence and defense posture and to increase the level of military presence in our countries”, decided the leaders of Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Hungary. “In preparation for the Summit in Vilnius, we will continue to strengthen our deterrence and defense posture on the entire Eastern Flank, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea,” they said.
