Customs optimization: Moldova and Ukraine discussed the reduction of tariffs for the transportation of agricultural products

At a meeting on Thursday, June 15, the heads of the agriculture ministries of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, Nikolay Solsky and Vladimir Bolya, discussed the issues of reducing tariffs for the transportation of Ukrainian agricultural products by rail. The Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova confirmed this information.

“The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are discussing preparations for the new agricultural year. In this regard, on June 15, a videoconference was held between the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Ukraine, Nikolai Solsky, with the director of Moldovan railways, Oleg Tofilat, with representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Customs Service and relevant authorities in Ukraine. The parties agreed on the next steps to optimize the transportation of agricultural goods through customs posts. Works are underway to transfer the transit of the Republic of Moldova from road networks to railways, which will reduce logistics costs, allow coordinating transit planning, and reduce transportation times,” reads a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Moldova, Moldova is interested in reducing road traffic and increase in traffic through the Moldovan railway. “This is in the interests of both countries: the Moldovan railway and market participants,” he said.

The next meeting on this topic will take place next week.

Recall that in April this year, Ukraine and Moldova signed an agreement on the operation of railway transport. It simplifies control procedures for the transit of goods by rail with the point of departure and destination Ukraine or Moldova. An agreement was also reached on the introduction of non-stop traffic on the territory of Ukraine between the checkpoints Frikachey – Etuliya and Reni – Giurgiulesti, which will increase the volume of goods transported by rail. In addition, in the spring of this year, freight traffic was launched along the restored railway section of Berezina – Bessarabka (Moldova).
