Good news for drivers! Starting January 1, 2025, the Green Card certificate will be available in digital format

Starting January 1, 2025, the Green Card insurance certificate can be presented in digital format, eliminating the requirement for a paper copy. It allows drivers of vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova to travel abroad in most member states of the Green Card system using only the digital certificate.

Printed Green Card certificates issued before November 1, 2024, remain valid for the entire specified period, according to the National Bank of Moldova.

However, the National Bureau of Motor Insurers clarifies that three of the more than 40 member countries of the Green Card system—Lithuania, Luxembourg, and Portugal—have not yet updated their regulations to accept exclusively digital certificates. Therefore, drivers traveling to or through these countries must also carry a printed version of the document.

The Green Card insurance certificate is an international auto insurance document that proves a vehicle owner has mandatory third-party liability insurance (external RCA) when driving outside their home country.
