India-Moldova Trade Relations Strengthen: New Embassy and Opportunities Ahead

India intends to open an embassy in the Republic of Moldova by the end of autumn 2023. The announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vladimir Bolea, who recently visited the Asian country. He mentioned that Moldova wants to establish and develop trade relations with India.

“This year, an embassy will be opened, most likely in October and no later than November 2023, which will boost our export potential and help businesspeople who wish to engage in trade. Currently, we do not have an embassy in India, and I believe this has been a missed opportunity by previous governments to develop trade in terms of relations with India,” stated Vladimir Bolea.

The Minister emphasized that currently, they are at an early stage in terms of trade with India, but both Moldova and India are interested in establishing trade relations.

“The purpose of the meetings was to inform about Moldova’s stage of development. We mentioned that we are a candidate country for EU accession and are in an extensive process of legislative harmonization. Moldova is authorized to export plant products to the EU and complies with EU requirements. Additionally, in 2023, we were authorized to export category A bird eggs and processed poultry meat, as well as planting material. All of these have sparked interest from the Indian side in establishing and developing trade relations,” said Bolea.

The Minister of Agriculture conducted a working visit to India from July 30th to August 2nd. During the visit, Vladimir Bolea held meetings with the Minister of State for Agriculture of India, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and the Secretary of State responsible for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India.
