Mihai Popsoi about Memorandum between the Nordic and Baltic countries and Moldova: “Your support assures us that Moldova will continue to advance on its European path”

An inter-ministerial memorandum of understanding between the Nordic and Baltic countries and Moldova’s Foreign Ministry was signed today in Chisinau, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi announced. He stated that “the document will help strengthen Moldova’s institutional capacities.”

According to Popsoi, this cooperation will enhance Moldova’s ability to respond to international challenges and quickly adapt to geopolitical changes.

“The expansion of the Nordic and Baltic diplomatic presence in Chisinau this year, including the opening of the Danish Embassy and a Norwegian Embassy office, is a clear sign of your strong commitment to supporting the Republic of Moldova. This expansion not only strengthens bilateral relations but also creates more opportunities for cooperation between our citizens, fostering mutual understanding and closer ties,” said Popsoi.

He emphasized that Moldova enjoys close cooperation with the Nordic and Baltic states while pursuing its efforts to integrate into the European Union. He reiterated Moldova’s determination “to remain a reliable partner for the Nordic and Baltic countries and the entire European Community.”

“Your support, through your presence and concrete actions, assures us that Moldova will continue to advance on its European path despite the challenges Moldova faces. We are committed to remaining a trustworthy partner for the Nordic and Baltic countries and the European Community. We will stay actively engaged in international efforts to support Ukraine against Russian aggression and contribute to regional and global security. Our focus remains on building a modern, democratic, European Moldova capable of addressing contemporary challenges and playing an increasingly active role within the European Community,” Popsoi added.

The Minister also expressed his gratitude to Sweden for coordinating the Nordic-Baltic format.

Eight foreign ministers from the Nordic-Baltic 8 (NB8) countries—Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden—are visiting Chisinau on October 15, with the meeting hosted by Popsoi.

The NB8 is a regional cooperation platform addressing key regional and international issues. In 2024, Sweden took over the chairmanship of the NB8 after Latvia’s leadership in 2023.
