Moldova to Become an Associated Country of the Three Seas Initiative. What Does the Diplomatic Format Entail?

President Klaus Iohannis announced on Tuesday that Greece will become a member of the Three Seas Initiative diplomatic format at the summit in September. The Three Seas Initiative now brings together 12 countries located between the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and the Adriatic Sea: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia, as reported by G4Media.

Furthermore, President Iohannis also mentioned that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine will be associated countries of the Three Seas Initiative.

On September 6, 2023, Iohannis will host the 8th edition of the Three Seas Initiative Summit at the Cotroceni Palace.

The format aims to promote cooperation for infrastructure development in the energy, transportation, and digital sectors, focusing on new investments, economic growth, and energy security.

The United States strongly supports this diplomatic format, seen as a counterbalance to Russia’s interests in Central and Eastern Europe.
