Moldova’s Fruit Exports to the EU Surge Following Customs Duty Elimination

Moldova’s fruit exports to the European Union have grown steadily in recent years, particularly after the EU eliminated customs duties on seven agricultural products from the Republic of Moldova.

Plum exports rose from 241 million lei in 2021 to 657 million lei in 2024, while grape exports increased from 216 million lei to 768 million lei over the same period.

Apple exports to the EU surged from 6.8 million lei in 2021 to 273 million lei in 2024. Cherry exports also saw significant growth, reaching 74.7 million lei in 2024, compared to just 2.5 million lei in 2021.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Dumitru Alaiba presented these figures, emphasizing that authorities in Chisinau, in collaboration with European partners, continue to expand opportunities for Moldovan products in the EU market.

“These are not just statistics—they represent hard work, determination, and ambition. Expanding market access is just one of the steps we are taking to support entrepreneurs and jobs in Moldova. However, to turn this progress into lasting success, we must go further: continuous investments in productivity, modern technologies, and higher quality standards. Only then can we increase exports and strengthen our position in the European market,” stated Dumitru Alaiba.
