The Republic of Moldova has made excellent progress in implementing the nine recommendations put forth by the European Commission a year ago, following the granting of candidate country status for EU accession, stated Gert Koopman, Director General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the conclusion of his visit to Chisinau.
“There have been excellent discussions, and I am impressed by the strong pro-European orientation of the Republic of Moldova. I am also impressed by the extremely challenging work done to implement the nine recommendations of the European Commission in June 2022, within the opinion on Moldova’s application for EU membership. Clearly, there is more to be done, but it is a good start, and we will continue with the collaboration. We must work together to complete this work as soon as possible. It is important that the country is definitely moving towards the European Union,” stated Gert Koopman.
It should be noted that in mid-June, the Republic of Moldova is set to submit its updated contribution to the EU Enlargement Report in Brussels. The European Commission will make a decision on launching the accession negotiations in October.
