More than 600,000 refugees fleeing the war passed through Moldova

The effective management of the refugee crisis was the basic challenge faced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2022. In a totalizing video, the MAI announces that over 600,000 citizens fleeing the war have passed through the Republic of Moldova, and 86 000 refugees out of that remained in the country. Half of them were children, reports IPN.

Also in 2022, the infrastructure was modernized, and the offices of the MAI were equipped with state-of-the-art equipment in order to improve the working conditions of employees. These are the headquarters of five police inspectorates, three sectors of the border police, and two subdivisions of rescuers and firefighters.

Actions were taken to support cooperation in internal security and border management. In this sense, the EU Security HUB was created in Chisinau, an operational mechanism that hosts periodic meetings between EU member states, European agencies, and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

As for the strategic documents signed, the MAI announces that in 2022 the Strategy for the development of the field of internal affairs was approved for the next 9 years, as well as a collaboration agreement with the EU regarding the activities carried out by the Frontex Agency in order to effectively manage the refugee crisis. Also in 2022, the Republic of Moldova joined the EU civil protection mechanism, which will make the interventions more effective.

The video surveillance system of road traffic was expanded, the response time to 112 calls was reduced by 3 minutes, the waiting time in customs was reduced from 6 days to 12 hours for the trucks that ensure the logistics chain, and the Moldovan permits have been recognized in Italy, Lithuania, and Turkey.

MAI collaborators received salary increases for the work performed in conditions with increased health risk, the total amount allocated amounts to 313 million lei.
