The deputy affiliated to the fugitive Ilan Shor, Alexandr Nesterovschi, was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in a closed-time penitentiary in the case in which he was accused of passive corruption, preparation, and acceptance of financing a political party from an organized criminal group. The decision was taken on Wednesday, March 19, by the Chisinau Court magistrates, Buiucani. Nesterovschi was not present in the courtroom, writes zdg.md.
Earlier, prosecutor Gheorghe Caragea asked for Nesterovschi to be sentenced to 10 years and 9 months in prison, insisting on the soundness of the evidence.
The case file examination, according to zdg.md, lasted one year and three months, and the prosecution lasted three months. On September 21, 2023, Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu, who was acting prosecutor at the time, requested the lifting of parliamentary immunity to detain, arrest, search and criminal prosecution the MP elected on the lists of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS), but “transferred” to the “Renaissance” party, controlled by the fugitive Ilan Shor, sentenced to 15 years in prison in the “bank fraud” case.

According to the indictment, Alexandr Nesterovschi accepted and received aviation services to Tel Aviv, Israel, undue advantages manifested by his appointment as a member of the Political Bureau of the “Renaissance” Party and de facto leadership of this party, as well as goods in the form of money worth no less than 35 thousand US dollars from the organized criminal group led by Ilan Shor. The prosecutors also say that Nesterovschi intentionally created conditions for the commission of the crime of illegal financing of a political party to ensure that Ilan Shor would maintain control over the political, electoral, and social processes in Moldova.
Earlier, Nesterovschi declared his innocence and accused PAS of using the case to pressure the opposition, but he expects a “fair decision.”
Meanwhile, Nesterovschi obtained Russian citizenship shortly before his sentencing in the case.
