Nicu Popescu: We need help to strengthen our capacities

The European Union will continue to provide aid to our country in the form of equipment and humanitarian assistance, after the organization of the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova in Paris, on November 22, 2022. The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, during a show on NordNews.

Popescu added that Romania is an important partner for Moldova on its way to joining the European Union. The Romanian partners contribute essential financial sums for solving the crises in our country.

The minister also added that the officials from Chisinau are waiting for a list from the European authorities, which will specifically stipulate the types of assistance for the Republic of Moldova.

“Yes, there are offers of help, including financial ones. France announced a new credit line of one hundred million, and Norway – 10 million. This money was previously announced a few weeks ago. Romania is always present with significant amounts, we also have the 100 million grant agreement that has been reactivated. At the same time, there are also concrete things that we need. We need help to strengthen our border management capabilities at the Home Office, so it’s often about equipment, not just money. Now, the states continue to give us in writing exactly what they will contribute and what types of assistance they will provide to the Republic of Moldova, and soon we will have this exhaustive list. For now, we also have a list of the states’ commitments, expressed verbally, but now we are working on compiling a centralized list of an offer of assistance”, said Nicu Popescu.
