The deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Pavel Postica, has explained why no presidential candidate has been excluded from the electoral race, even though the police have announced a voter corruption scheme involving 130 thousand people. Pavel Postica said in a special edition of RLIVE TV that the electoral entity has not received any evidence from the law enforcement officers that would prove the involvement of some candidates in voter corruption schemes.
“We have to start from strictly legal issues. We cannot exclude someone from the race just based on certain assumptions. I repeat, the General Inspectorate of Police sent us a general information note on the same day as their first press conference, simply restating what was said at the event. Are you asking how candidates might influence voters without providing direct evidence or information, or are you asking for an improved version of this text? Could you clarify what you would like assistance with? In this respect, the Central Electoral Commission was legally, legally unable to apply a certain sanction,” said Pavel Postica.
On the morning of October 3, officers of the National Investigation Inspectorate, jointly with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, carried out several searches in a criminal case initiated in connection with money laundering and illegal financing of parties and initiative groups supporting potential candidates who wanted to become electoral contestants in the race for the post of the head of state. An organized criminal group committed the crime on a particularly large scale. National Police Chief Viorel Cernauteanu stated that around 130,000 Moldovans are targeted in the Shor’s parties’ illegal financing, as they receive money in Promsvyazbank accounts in Russia.
