In a resolute statement, President Maia Sandu asserts that the Moldovan government no longer humiliates itself before the Kremlin as it did in the past but stands up for the interests of its citizens and speaks truthfully. She vows that Moldova will no longer allow itself to be “mocked” by Russia and openly addresses the pressures exerted by Moscow on Chisinau.
While Moscow continues to demonstrate a lack of respect towards the people of the Republic of Moldova, the government in Chisinau, which represents the citizens, refuses to submit as previous administrations did. It boldly defends its interests and speaks candidly about the situation. President Sandu made these remarks during the “Puncte de reflecție” program on Vocea Basarabiei.
The head of state emphasizes that Moldova has become more resilient, thanks in part to the support provided by development partners. This support was reaffirmed during the recent Summit held in Chișinău on June 1, which hosted nearly 50 European leaders, including presidents, prime ministers, and EU officials.

“Today we are much more resilient, primarily because we are no longer energy-dependent on Russia, as we were just a few months ago. We also have more friends because there is increasing attention toward the Republic of Moldova, as evidenced by the Summit,” stated President Maia Sandu.
It is worth mentioning that President Sandu recently declared during a television program that the relationship between Moldova and the Russian Federation has never been based on respect, despite the efforts of the government in Chisinau. She pointed to the presence of illegal troops in the separatist region of Transnistria, political embargoes, and constant interference by Moscow in the internal affairs of Chisinau as evidence of this fact. These statements were refuted by Moscow. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dismissed the claims as false, stating that Russia has “always” respected Moldova and its people.
