On the sidelines of the Summit of Southeast European countries, President Maia Sandu discussed with her Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, about the European future of the two states, developments on the front, as well as the transit of Ukrainian wheat through the territory of the Republic of Moldova, as noted in a statement from the Presidency.
“This week, as both Moldova and Ukraine celebrate their Independence Day, we talked about how important peace and freedom are for our countries. Despite the dramatic regional situation, both countries are undergoing complex reforms and taking concrete steps to accelerate the initiation of EU accession negotiations,” emphasized Maia Sandu.

Likewise, the head of state also spoke with his counterpart in Kiev about the third Summit of the Crimea Platform at the level of heads of state and government, which will take place on Wednesday, August 23. Moldova will be represented at this international event by Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
“Moldova enjoys peace today thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian people. Moldova stands with Ukraine, alongside Ukrainians who are fighting to defend their land and their right to determine their own future,” the head of state added.
