Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ongoing Threats to Moldova Amid Ukraine Crisis

Through the spokesperson Maria Zakharova, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatens Chișinău, urging them to cease their involvement in supporting Ukraine. This new threat comes after a series of other threats towards the Republic of Moldova, which Russian officials resorted to following the invasion of Ukraine.

In a post on the official Moscow news agency’s telegram, TASS, it is stated that Maria Zakharova echoes propagandistic claims that the West is actively drawing the Republic of Moldova into the conflict in Ukraine.

The Russian Federation officially warns officials in Chișinău against deeper involvement in the process of “supporting” Ukraine, according to the cited source.

It should be noted that this position from Moscow’s authorities comes after another series of threats directed at Chișinău in recent times.

Thus, on April 11th, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened that getting closer to NATO would mean the loss of sovereignty for the Republic of Moldova.

On July 27th, Moscow threatened the citizens of the Republic of Moldova that they would feel the effects of Russia’s response to the decision of the authorities in Chișinău to reduce the number of diplomats from this country’s embassy due to espionage actions.

On August 15th, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted with a threat towards Chișinău after, on August 14th, 45 Russian diplomats were forced to leave the Republic of Moldova.
