“Study in Moldova” campaign: The Ministry of Education and Research encourages young people to choose universities in the country

The Ministry of Education and Research (MER) has launched a national campaign to promote university studies, “Study in Moldova.” The campaign’s goal is to inform high school and college graduates about the higher education opportunities available in Moldova and encourage young people to choose to study in our country.

“In recent years, the higher education system has undergone significant changes, and we are at a point where we can confidently say that we have something to offer to graduates,” said Education Minister Dan Perciun at the campaign launch event.

The Minister highlighted the growing trend in the number of students at universities in the country. Last year, 16,009 young people enrolled in bachelor’s studies, 1,333 more than in 2023. The number of those choosing a faculty in the field of education also increased, with 1,753 more students compared to last year.

The MER’s goal for this year is for six out of ten Moldovan students to stay in the country, which would mean a 7% increase in first-year enrollment students.

The Education Minister reports investments of over 350 million lei in modernizing universities. Renovation works worth 248 million lei are planned for this year, focusing on equipping laboratories and improving conditions in student dormitories.

“We have competitive universities recognized worldwide,” Dan Perciun stated. “Five universities in the country are institutionally accredited by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. The accredited institutions are USM, ASEM, Alecu Russo University, B.P. Hasdeu University, and AMTAP. Additionally, USMF ‘Nicolae Testemitanu,’ which is internationally accredited and offers places to foreign students,” the Minister added.

To encourage young people to study in Moldova, the Ministry of Education also recommends programs accredited by agencies in Romania, Estonia, and Germany, according to Erasmus programs.

The “Study in Moldova” campaign will include activities to bring universities closer to potential students. Open door days will let young people visit universities, meet professors, and explore the opportunities of Moldova’s higher education system. Additionally, university representatives will visit high schools and colleges nationwide to present their educational offers to graduates.
