The EPP requests that Moldova is offered candidate country status

The largest political party in the European Parliament, the European People’s Party (EPP), calls on the European Council to grant Moldova and Ukraine the status of a candidate state for EU membership.

In this context, the Romanian MEP, Vice President of the EPP, Siegfried Mureșan, together with the President of the EPP, Manfred Weber, signed an article in the Romanian press, arguing the need to consolidate the vote and grant this status to our country and Ukraine.

“Ukraine is Europe. The Republic of Moldova is Europe. The European People’s Party is calling for candidate status for both countries. Together with the President of the EPP, Manfred Weber, today I published an article on Digi24 in which we explain why Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova deserve and must receive the status of candidate state for the European Union “, wrote the Romanian MEP from the EPP Siegfried MureČ™an.

At the same time, in the article of the two European officials, the arguments why Moldova and Ukraine must obtain this status are reduced to the security crisis in the region, caused by the war waged by the Russian Federation.

The authors of the article also state that they “know that the road to accession will be long and difficult, but now, it is possible.”

We remind you that on June 23 and 24, the European Council will decide whether to grant the status of candidate state for EU accession by Moldova and Ukraine.
