The government is seeking new train operators to provide additional journeys for Moldovans

The government has established a working group to contract new rail operators. The decision was taken by the Council of Ministers, which met on Wednesday, 31 January, to consider the way forward.

The Ministry of Infrastructure has announced that officials will search for new operators, handle contract awards, draft necessary documents, and negotiate with railway companies.

The agency says that the government intends to contract passenger train operators to provide quality services to the public, offer comfortable trains to passengers, and ensure the diversification of passenger routes.

The working group includes representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the National Motor Transport Agency, the Railway Agency, the Federation of Railway Workers’ Unions, as well as two observer members – the Intelligence and Security Service and the National Anti-Corruption Centre.
