In a few weeks, on July 17, it will be 587 years since the day when Chisinau was first attested in documents. Currently, several hundred thousand people live in the capital of the Republic of Moldova. However, how many of you know about the place where Chisinau City was founded? We will tell you about all this in a new edition of the “Tourist Chisinau” project.
“On the left side, we have the foundation of Chisinau. On the left side, above, you can see the Măzărache church. In front of us is Bîcul”, explains guide Iurie Dodiță.
In 1436, there was a Tatar settlement near this place. The Tatars lived here from 1240 to 1360. Opposite was the village of Oțel. It is mentioned in a charter signed in 1436 in Vaslui, which tells the story of the emergence of Chisinau.
“Before, it was believed that Chisinau was founded in 1466, and all the entrances to the city had the year 1466 written on them. Some young researchers working in Poland found this document interesting. And now Chisinau has two birthdays”, Iurie Dodiță also said.
Next, we invite you to watch the full interview.
