TV-BOX SRL was fined 15,000 Lei for repeatedly violating the 50% quota of services in Romanian

TV-BOX SRL, which leases the StarNet SRL network, was fined 15,000 lei for repeatedly failing to comply with the 50% quota of services in Romanian.

During last Friday’s meeting, the members of the Audiovisual Council (CA) unanimously voted to sanction the media service distributor TV-BOX SRL for repeatedly failing to meet the 50% quota for services retransmitted in Romanian or with Romanian subtitles/dubbing, as required by Article 55 para. (3) letter a) of the Audiovisual Media Services Code (CSMA).

Aneta Gontsa, the Vice-President of the CA, who initiated the compliance inspection, emphasized the repetitive nature of the violation and the large number of subscribers registered by the distributor as key factors in determining the maximum fine of 15,000 lei.

Before the inspection started, Gheorghe Pavel informed the Audiovisual Council about StarNet SRL’s plan to supplement offering retransmitted channels.

It is worth noting that the same company was fined 5,000 lei in March 2024 for a repeated violation of Article 3, letter (a) of the CSMA, which mandates that at least 35% of audiovisual media services offered must be in Romanian or include Romanian subtitles/dubbing, with a gradual increase to 50% over the next three years.
