A vibrant independent media is a crucial element of participatory democracy. Ambassador Logsdon spoke to media representatives at the 2024 Media Policy Forum alongside Ambassadors Mazeiks and Horine. The United States is proud to support independent media in Moldova through USAID and U.S. State Department programs.
The Media Policy Forum 2024 aims to bolster the development and sustainability of Moldova’s media sector within the context of the European Union’s Enlargement Policy. This annual event convenes to address media-related issues, brainstorm potential solutions, and outline necessary actions for improving the legal framework governing media in the Republic of Moldova.
By bringing together diverse stakeholders and international experts, the forum facilitates collaboration to tackle pressing challenges concerning press freedom and freedom of expression and enhance Moldova’s media laws and regulations.
This year’s forum, “Supporting the Development and Sustainability of the Media Sector in Moldova in the Context of the European Union’s Enlargement Policy,” was on May 23, 2024, in Chisinau.
The event was organized by Freedom House in partnership with Internews, with financial support from the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, USAID, the British Embassy in Chisinau, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, and the Soros Foundation Moldova.
