World Bank Provides $40 Million Funding to Enhance Education Quality in Moldova

The World Bank has announced a financing package of $40 million to the Republic of Moldova for the implementation of the “Improving Education Quality” project. Additionally, three grants totaling $20 million have been extended by external partners to support this initiative.

The Government of Moldova has secured a grant of $4.8 million from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a $5 million grant from the Early Learning Partnership (ELP), and a $10 million grant from the Global Concessional Financing Facility (GCFF).

The allocated funds will be utilized for the construction of three high schools in the northern, central, and southern regions of the country. Furthermore, the financing will contribute to the modernization of infrastructure, the digital transformation of learning environments in approximately 200 schools, and the rehabilitation of around 15 schools and 15 kindergartens.

“The implementation of this project signifies significant support for the modernization of our education system. With the help of this funding, we will be able to reduce inequalities in access to educational services and improve the quality of services offered, with a focus on the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in the Republic of Moldova, as well as refugees from Ukraine,” emphasized Anatolie Topală, the Minister of Education and Research.

It is worth mentioning that the project is scheduled to be implemented over the course of the next six years. This comprehensive initiative aims to address the challenges faced by the education sector in Moldova and elevate the overall quality of education throughout the country. The investments will not only enhance infrastructure but also promote digital literacy and inclusive education, fostering equal opportunities for all students.

The Republic of Moldova recognizes the significance of providing quality education as a catalyst for socioeconomic development. The support from the World Bank and external partners will undoubtedly contribute to the realization of this goal, empowering the country’s youth and paving the way for a prosperous future.
