Maia Sandu: Russia’s Attempt to Block Moldova’s EU Integration Met with Resilient Allies at EPC Summit

European leaders must make a greater collective effort to protect their countries from Russian propaganda, illicit funds from Russia, and any attempts to destabilize democracies. This statement was made by President Maia Sandu at the European Political Community Summit, taking place today in Granada, Spain.

“Russia continues to try to undermine the democratic process in Moldova and hinder Moldova’s European integration. But we have strong allies, including today, here. I will appeal to leaders to fight against disinformation, propaganda, and those who are used by Russia to undermine democracies. We have elections in Moldova in November, and other countries in the region are facing the same problem – Russian interference. That is why I believe we need to make a greater collective effort to protect our democracies from disinformation, illicit funds from Russia, and any attempts at destabilization. We will take all necessary measures to protect ourselves. At the same time, we are committed to building democracy. We have demonstrated this, and we will succeed in both building democracy and protecting our country and citizens,” said Maia Sandu.
