Moldova Launches Its Largest Photovoltaic Park in Radeni — Spanning 96 Hectares with a Capacity of 50 MW

On Tuesday, July 8, officials launched a photovoltaic park in Radeni, Straseni district, with an installed capacity of 50 MW spread over 96 hectares.

Out of the total capacity, producers will sell 24 MW at a fixed price over 15 years, following a recent tender organized by the Ministry of Energy for large-scale renewable providers. The remaining 26 MW will enter the free energy market. The plant operates with bifacial panels that deliver 715 watts of power and achieve 23% efficiency, marking the first time Moldova has deployed this type of technology.

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu praised the rapid completion of the park—built in just eight months—and highlighted its role in expanding Moldova’s renewable energy potential.

“This is a record time for a project of this kind, and I congratulate the developer for their professionalism. Private investors play a vital role in growing the energy sector and contribute both to national energy security and to our goal of reaching a 27% renewable energy share in total consumption,” Junghietu stated.

Over the past five years, Moldova has increased its solar and wind power generation capacity eightfold, reaching 689 MW by May. The country recently concluded its first tender for large-scale wind and solar parks with a combined capacity of 165 MW. This autumn, the government plans to launch another round of tenders for wind projects totaling up to 173 MW, which, for the first time, will include energy storage solutions of at least 22 MW.

Moldova aims to reach a 30% share of renewable electricity and 27% of total renewable energy consumption by 2030. In 2024, renewable electricity accounted for 16.7%, and current projections estimate a rise to 27% current year.
