Moldovan President Maia Sandu, on August 17, convened an ordinary meeting of the Supreme Security Council (SSC) to discuss the country’s energy security and preparation for the cold season, the presidential press service reports.
Members of the CSS discussed the measures taken by state institutions to provide natural gas and electricity in the coming period, the progress of major energy investment projects, and energy efficiency programs.
Following the information submitted by the competent authorities, the members of the SSC came up with several decisions and recommendations. The state must be prepared to ensure that people have continuous access to energy resources – gas, electricity, heat – in all conditions and regional contexts. Similarly, in case of need, it must be able to provide the necessary assistance to vulnerable citizens. Thus, the priority objective in the 2023 year will be to purchase gas at the most advantageous market prices and to build up sufficient stocks.
Through the efforts made by the authorities, the Republic of Moldova is strengthening its energy security, and the competent institutions will be able to supply citizens with electricity and heat in the next heating season, whatever the scenario.
